From the Egg to the Apple was conceived in Liverpool, built and exhibited in Paros and traveled back to Liverpool. The theme is taken from an ancient Greco-Roman saying, where a banquet would begin with the eating of an egg and finish with an apple. Red Wire interpretated this as a take on process, duration and the beginning or making of a piece is as important as the end result

These are two of the pieces by Harry Lawson. Harry spent a considerable amount of time exploring Paros, and collecting the rocks he found at his destinations. Harrys spiraled frame used his now trade mark signature framing technique of screws diagonally inserted into corners, where as three framed rocks (right) were displayed on the roof terraces, where as another rock was framed in photographs of the direct North, East, South and West of itself- arguably more than anyone, Harry responded to the islands geological systems
(above) Amy Gorings 'Leg' was whittled from drift wood found on the beaches of Paros. These intrically carved toe and leg bones and looks at 'how isolated objects become products of antiquity. The wood thinks about human consumption and dependence on such material'. Like Harry and (below) Linda's, pieces Amy was totally dependent on the islands natural raw materials, and spent time working and researching the island itself

(left) Joshua Tennant's video performance was a test of endurance and personal eating strength. By attempting to eat 50 chocolate eggs in one hour, Joshua is responding to both the film Cool Hand Luke and the Greek Orthodox Easter, which was in swing during our residency.
(above right) Karen O Brien, who conceived and developed our residency
in the Apothiki Gallery, Paros initially stamped and delivered 50
blank postcards marked with the Apothiki Gallery. These were then
re-addressed to Red Wire, re-stamped and the public was invited to do
what they wished on the card, and post them to us for the second leg.
Michael Aitken slightly stepped away from his recent, polished painted/ sculptures, and made a piece that responded to the theme- in that the processes and development of the piece and idea were clearly visible. Knots, string, tape, bows, canvas, ties, wire, wood and linen and all floated upon entrance, and was left to be given to the major of Paros's municipal building. In the kitchen, Mike also exhibited 'For Grandma, Danda and The Universe is OK from materials found on the island.
Linda Pittwood (left) and Katie Halsall (right) both made a collection of paintings. Linda's were minimal reflections of Paros are a personal reflection of her diary entries and oil experiments while on the island. Katie's acrylic experiments with bleach are colourful landscapes were painted on the Apothiki's roof and reflect the brightness of the Mediterranean light.
Amanda Ferguson's piece dealt with the negative space (un)found in plastic packaging. This follows on from Amada's drawing practice, which as been drawing the spaces usually ignored. These were then cast in white plaster of Paris, also highlighting the way this space is unseen or ignored.

The Return leg was held in Red Wire, and was much the same, but not as good, and we didn't bother inviting anyone to it- it was pretty crap really as none of us could be bothered to do anything after the awesome residency, so there's no point writing about it.
