Welcome to Liverpool
14.10.07 - 28.10.07
A solo exhibition by Nicola Fitzsimmons
Red Wires first solo exhibition was held by Nicola Fitzsimmons in October 2007.
Welcome to Liverpool was an examination into her involvement networks that arise
from shared interests and passions such as for music and art.
The installation based in the main gallery space
consists of a series of new works created in response to the artist's
experiences of social interaction within the city. Using repetitive forms and
everyday materials such as paper and adhesive tape Nicola transforms the
mundane and routine into a visual feast contemplating concerns about a personal
past, present and future
Nicola's first solo show presents a union of paper
airplanes, characters constructed from adhesive tape, polystyrene and cardboard
bodies pulled together by old cassettes along with masks and photographs that
collectively translate Nicola's playful approach to the exploration of identity
and experience
As part of the exhibition visitors were invited
to bring a compilation mix tape/cd to be entered into an ongoing music swap.
